Consultation strategy

Triennial agreement

The Waikato Regional Triennial Agreement outlines how local government in the Waikato region will consult in order to work collaboratively, maximise efficiency and promote wellbeing in our communities.

Maori liaison

The Waikato Regional Council acknowledges the special position of tangata whenua within the region. The council also encourages staff to work with hapu and whanau groups at an operational level. As part of the ‘partnership’ approach we seek between council and Maori, relationships with local iwi are being formalised through Memoranda of Agreement. Current agreements are available below.

Code of conduct

The code of conduct describes the roles, the relationship and the agreed standards of behaviour elected members have with each other, the chief executive, council staff, the community and the media. The code’s appendix sets out how legislation requirements affect elected members’ duties and conduct.
